Congressionally Directed Spending Requests
Continuing for fiscal year 2023, Chairman Leahy is committed to following the existing requirements for congressionally directed spending items in Rule XLIV of the Standing Rules of the Senate and, beginning in fiscal year 2022, Leahy successfully implemented new reforms that ensure greater transparency and accountability. You can read more about those reforms here, and you can find a list of all fiscal year 2022 congressionally directed spending requests here.
The Committee requires that Senators post all of their congressionally directed spending requests, as well as their financial certification disclosures attesting that neither they nor their immediate family have any financial interest in any of the items requested, to their official Senate websites. These requests must be posted to the Senator’s website within 15 calendar days of the relevant subcommittee’s submission deadline. This allows time for the Committee to ensure the requests were properly submitted. Each subcommittee has a different deadline for congressionally directed spending requests, and these deadlines can be found here.
