Senators Murray and Collins Statement on Release of Final FY24 Funding Bills
Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), Chair and Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee respectively, issued the following statement after releasing the second and final bipartisan package of fiscal year 2024 appropriations bills.
“These final six bills represent a bipartisan and bicameral compromise—they will invest in the American people, build a stronger economy, help keep our communities safe, and strengthen our national security and global leadership.
“We said from the very beginning that if we all work together in a reasonable, bipartisan way, we can fund the government responsibly. Senate appropriators held more than fifty committee hearings, received input from virtually every Member, and marked up and advanced twelve strong bipartisan bills out of our committee for the first time in years. Much of that work is reflected in this final product. There is zero need for a shutdown or chaos—and Members of Congress should waste no time in passing these six bills, which will greatly benefit every state in America and reflect important priorities of many Senators.
“Setting the nation’s spending priorities is one of Congress’ most important and consequential responsibilities. Passing full-year funding bills that meet the current challenges we face at home and abroad is critical, and anything less is an abdication of our responsibilities. Let’s get this done.”
