ICYMI – Leahy, Schumer Introduce Path Forward On Disaster Bill, Will Push For Floor Action This Week
Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) Tuesday introduced an amendment that would provide $16.7 billion in disaster assistance, including $2.5 billion in new funding for communities in the Southeast and Midwest and restoring certain funding for Puerto Rico and other states and territories. Leahy and Schumer will push for the Senate to take up their amendment this week.

The Leahy-Schumer amendment includes the Leahy Compromise offered last week restoring certain funding for Puerto Rico and other states and territories, in addition to $2.5 billion in new funding for communities in the Southeast and Midwest. If Senate Republicans block the Leahy-Schumer amendment it will be the second time this week Senate Republicans have blocked funding for 2019 disasters, including those in the Midwest and Southeast, and continues their refusal to adequately address the needs of the American citizens of Puerto Rico and other territories.
