Mikulski Statement on Budget Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement in response to the passage of the Senate Budget Resolution, S. Con. Res. 11:

“A budget isn’t just about numbers and programs; it’s also about our values as a nation. It was my hope that we would pass a budget that gave middle class families a much deserved raise, invested in infrastructure and innovation and met compelling human needs.  But the budget we passed today is irresponsible and fails to effectively invest in our future.

“As Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am disappointed that we didn’t take the opportunity to call for an end to the arbitrary and extremely harmful sequester cuts enacted in the Budget Control Act of 2011.  We need a budget with responsible spending caps that will allow us to fund the programs that keep our nation safe, grow our economy and provide an opportunity ladder for every American.”
