Murray, DeLauro Introduce Short-Term Continuing Resolution, Call on Congress to Pass Bipartisan Funding Bills

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee, and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chair, introduced a short-term continuing resolution (CR) in the House and Senate respectively to prevent a government shutdown come Saturday, allow Congress to get back to negotiating and passing full-year funding bills for fiscal year 2025 that invest in America’s families and future, and ensure the American people have a say in how federal funding is allocated.

“Speaker Johnson’s slush fund continuing resolution empowers President Trump and Elon Musk to pick winners and losers with taxpayer dollars, and make no mistake: it shortchanges families and includes painful funding cuts for bipartisan domestic priorities like cancer research, Army Corps projects, and much more.

“There is a very clear alternative to House Republicans’ plan: immediately passing a short-term patch to prevent a senseless shutdown and finishing work on serious, bipartisan funding bills that invest in working Americans, keep our country safe, and ensure our constituents have a say in how federal funding is spent.

“Today, we are introducing a short-term continuing resolution to do just that. Congress should work together in a bipartisan way to prevent a shutdown and invest in working families and communities in every part of the country.”

The short-term continuing resolution introduced today keeps the government funded through April 11. It includes only a handful of necessary adjustments to prevent funding issues in the interim and to extend essential health authorizations.
