Senate Passes Continuing Appropriations Resolution to Fund Government Through November 15, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Senate today amended and then approved H.J. Res. 59, a short-term Continuing Resolution to fund the government from October 1, 2013 through November 15, 2013, by a vote of 54 to 44. The Senate bill now returns to the House for its consideration. Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) issued the following statement:

"The clean, short-term Continuing Resolution we send back to the House today will prevent a government shutdown. It lays the groundwork for us to replace sequester, to come up with an approach to fund essential government services and to make investments that America desperately needs. The Senate acted today to keep our government open so that it can perform its critical services. The Continuing Resolution avoids a shutdown and lays the groundwork for solving our long-term fiscal problems. I urge the House to do the responsible thing, pass it as quickly as possible and send it to the President for his signature."
