Statement from Chairwoman Mikulski on the Release of the Fiscal Year 2015 Budget Request by the President

WASHINGTON - Chairwoman Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) issued the following statement today with regard to the release of the President's Fiscal Year 2015 budget request:

"A budget isn’t just about numbers and programs. It’s about our values as a nation. The President’s budget values job growth and opportunity for all Americans. I share those priorities.

"We have a budget agreement for fiscal year 2015, and the Senate Appropriations Committee will adhere to the spending caps in that deal. But we also have an investment deficit in America. That’s why I will continue to fight the irresponsible sequestration funding levels we are facing in future years so we can make needed investments in our people and infrastructure.

"Since becoming Chairwoman a little more than a year ago, my goal for the Committee has been to get back to regular order. Receiving the President’s budget proposal today is a part of that process. The Committee will move forward expeditiously with hearings and markups with a goal of having a budget in place for fiscal year 2015 by October 1.

"I look forward to working with my colleagues across the aisle and across the dome to enact appropriations bills that make critical investments in our physical infrastructure, our human infrastructure and our national security."
