Vice Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) Statement On Second Disaster Supplemental Request
[Senate Appropriations Vice Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) Thursday released a statement on the Trump administration’s request for new emergency supplemental funding to address recent natural disasters. The request totals $29.4 billion for emergency disaster relief, flood insurance assistance, and to replenish federal firefighting accounts.]
“I am glad the administration is taking the next step in providing relief to those affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, and the wildfires that have scorched parts of our country. But this is just the next step of many we will need to take to provide immediate relief to those still in desperate need and to rebuild.
“We need to stand by our commitment to not only rebuild, but invest in technology, conservation and infrastructure that will mitigate further damage and make our communities more resilient. In a world where ‘100 year’ disasters are annual occurrences, we have no other choice.
“I look forward to working with Chairman Cochran and the administration to ensure that Congress acts quickly on this much needed relief.”
