Vice Chairwoman Mikulski Statement on Clean, Short-Term Continuing Funding Resolution
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after the Senate passed a clean, short-term continuing funding resolution (CR) that will keep the government open through Wednesday, December 16, 2015, while Congress continues work on a bipartisan fiscal year 2016 Omnibus:
“Today the Senate passed a clean, short-term continuous funding resolution (CR) to give us time to finish a full year funding package without the threat of a shutdown.
“After months of Democrats pushing for a bipartisan budget deal to cancel sequester, Congress finally passed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 at the end of October. Now that Congress has the resources, it is time to pass responsible funding legislation to protect our national security, rebuild our physical infrastructure, create jobs for today and jobs for tomorrow, and meet compelling human needs.
“The American people deserve a government on their side that works as hard as they do. That is why I continue fighting every day for a bipartisan, bicameral omnibus deal to keep our government open and off autopilot, without including poison pill riders or leaving any bills behind. Let’s finish our work now, so there is no government shutdown.”
