Vice Chairwoman Mikulski Statement on Senate Passage of FY16 Veterans Affairs & Military Construction Appropriations Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after the Senate passed the fiscal year 2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies appropriations bill:

“Our veterans have fought on the front lines, risking their lives for our country, so we fought for the resources to provide them the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve.   Since May, I called for Congress to provide relief from the oppressive sequester funding caps.  The bill we passed today was a direct result of the Bipartisan Budget Act that finally passed on October 30.  The budget deal allowed Congress to provide an additional $2 billion for veterans health care, so promises made to our veterans are promises kept.   I look forward to continuing to work across the aisle and across the dome to pass a bipartisan, 12-bill appropriations omnibus by December 11 so there is no Christmas crisis.”
